"Adventure Explored with Wood N Wheels"
Who are we?
We are a Christian charity that is passionate about developing young people, bringing adventure into learning in the outdoors, to transform lives.
How we started
It all started back in 1922 when a group of Sunday school teachers decided to take their young people, who had never been away from London, to the coast to enjoy the countryside and the healthy sea air. Since those early days we’ve grown to a nationwide organisation with four centres across the UK and over 60,000 visitors every year.
What We Do
Since we began 100 years ago, the essence of what we do hasn’t really changed. We give young people and those who are young at heart, a chance to experience exhilarating adventure in a safe and affirming environment. We help young people to push boundaries, widen their horizon, grow in confidence and discover capabilities they didn’t know they had.
Why Wood N Wheels?
We invest heavily in our instructors so that they can invest in your group too. Our instructors are with us year-round and undergo an intensive training programme which means that they have both the qualifications and experience to lead your group’s activities and to care for each child and young person that you bring.
Livs Whitehouse
ITP, Frontier Centre
Livs joined our Instructor Training Programme in September 2021 and has quickly become a valued part of the team at the Frontier Centre.
“It’s amazing to be able to create a different experience for kids that they won’t forget, especially when they might not normally have the chance to take part in these types of activities.”
Lewis Hasemore
Instructor, Carroty Wood
Lewis joined Wood N Wheels in 2018 on our Instructor Training Programme and is now an instructor at Carroty Wood.
“This is a life changing opportunity. You get to meet new people and make a difference in their lives. When someone remembers you, it makes an impact and brings joy.”
Sarah Porthouse
Lead Instructor, Whithaugh Park
Sarah is the Lead Instructor at Wood N Wheels’s Whithaugh Park in the Scottish Borders.
“I love being able to give the people that I’m teaching their independence. I always try and encourage people to figure things out themselves so that they feel more confident, it’s great to be able to make a difference.”
James Roberts,
Office Manager, Frontier Centre
James has worked at the Frontier Centre in Northamptonshire since 2018. He is the Office Manager and leads our customer-focused administration team.
“This is a fantastic place, it’s an environment unlike anything else. There is a real community aspect and it’s a family vibe that we have here."
We are passionate about developing young people
Safety is our top priority
We take the safety of our visitors very seriously. All of our centres are licensed by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA) and are regularly inspected as part of our internal health and safety audit programme. Our instructors are fully trained and all of our team are DBS checked. View our risk management plan.
Tailored to your needs
We tailor our residential stays and day visits to meet the individual needs of your group. You can choose from full board or self-catering, an action packed activity programme or leave free time for your own programme or group-led activities.
Guided by faith
Wood N Wheels is a Christian charity who have a passion to invest in young people. We welcome people of all faiths and none and provide a safe and friendly environment for them to be themselves.
No Child misses out.
Bursary Places
We offer bursary places to children who would otherwise be unable to come. Every child should have the opportunity to challenge themselves and grow in confidence and it’s our belief that your group will benefit as a whole if everyone is able to join in with the adventure.
“Without the bursary the children would not have been able to go on the residential trip which had such a positive impact on their learning, understanding and the development of essential skills.” Lucy, School Teacher – South Wales
